We have two great panel line ups for you on Friday 15 April to round out Australia Week in China.

#1 – The Chinese Consumer

Our first panel of the day will consider what it means to sell in the China market, bringing together insights from some of the experts who have been doing it well here for a long time. We will hear from Jackie Yun, co-owner of the successful Wagas restaurant group, Craig Aldous, Country Head for Elders Ltd in China, Mark Tanner, Founder and Managing Director of insights based marketing, research and digital firm China Skinny, and David Keir, CEO of Freedom Road Travel and Vice Chairman of Dash Brands.


Jackie Yun – In Shanghai since 1999, Jackie is the co-owner of Wagas Shanghai Ltd, the well known operation with over 50 cafes/bakeries in 8 cities across China. Jackie will oversee the company’s expansion into Hangzhou this year, and is targeting to open 20 new Wagas and Baker & Spice stores this year alone.

Craig Aldous – After first coming to China in 1994, Craig is the Country Head for Elders Limited in China where he works to grow the company’s food business reach into hotels, restaurants and supermarkets throughout China.

Mark Tanner – Each week Mark publishes the most-read newsletter about Chinese consumers and is regularly quoted in the media for his views on the China market. As the Founder and Managing Director of Shanghai-based China Skinny, Mark leads a team working with a host of international companies and brands to tailor their pitch to the China market.

David Keir – An entrepreneur and business adviser with more than 20 years experience in China, David now heads up Freedom Road Travel, a China based travel agency. David is also the Vice Chairman of Dash Brands, a Shanghai based quick service restaurant company with master franchise rights for Domino’s Pizza in eastern and northern China.

#2 – A China Focused Boardroom brought to you by PRP Solutions

Moderated by AustCham Shanghai Chairman Peter Arkell, our China boardroom panel includes John Brumby, National President and Chairman of the Australia China Business Council (ACBC) and an Independent Director of Huawei Australia, Mark Schaub, International Partner at King & Wood Mallesons, Michael Wadley, Independent Non-Executive Director of Bellamy’s and Paul Glasson, Executive President Satori Investments. Pitched at C-suite executives, the panel will talk about the importance of China experience in Australian boardrooms, and corporate governance and risk management in the China market.


The Hon John Brumby – John was the Premier of Victoria between 2007-2010 and previously served as State Treasurer, Leader of the Opposition, and in the Federal Parliament as the Member for Bendigo in the Hawke Government. Since retiring from politics, John has accepted a number of appointments including as National President of the ACBC and as an Independent Director of Huawei Australia.

Mark Schaub – As an International Partner with global law firm King & Wood Mallesons, Mark specialises in foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity investment in China. In 2015, Mark was ranked as one of the leading individuals in the field of corporate and M&A in China by Legal 500 in its Asia Pacific rankings.

Michael Wadley – Based in Shanghai for more than a decade, Michael draws on his 20 years of experience in corporate and legal advisory services as Principal of Wadley Consulting Shanghai. Michael is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Australian listed and Tasmanian based branded food business Bellamy’s and is a registered foreign lawyer in China and Hong Kong.

Paul Glasson – As Executive President of Satori Investments Paul works on cross border and outbound M&A from China. Paul has considerable experience raising capital from China for investment into Australia. Paul was chosen as a young leader at the Boao Forum in 2009, 2010 and 2013.

Moderator – Peter Arkell – Peter is the Chairman of AustCham Shanghai and has been on the Board of Directors since 2008. Living in Shanghai for more than a decade, Peter is also the Managing Director of HR consulting company Carrington Day.
